Long a favorite in Japan, this famous cultivar forms a small (10-15') pendulous tree with 7-lobed ?palmate? leaves of purple-red (crimson in fall) on branches which cascade gracefully to the ground. S-PSh/M
This purple leaved tree is slightly pendulous growing up to 15' high and wide, but slowly. Zone 5.
MATSUMURAE, red. At maturity this tree will be more than 10' wide with cascading branches that touch the ground. The leaves are deeply cut, nearly to the center, dark purple in spring to bronzy-purple in summer with green undertones, changing finally to red in the fall. Rarely found in cultivation but an established favorite in Japan.
