Reticulated leaves show splashes of strawberry-pink color with deeper burgundy and purple tones underneath. Spring leaves are especially colorful. Fall color brightens to red and rust-orange.
A spring knockout! Strawberry red deeply divided leaves frosted with glimmering silver-white decorate this small tree. Needs protection from intense afternoon sun. PSh-Sh/M
Olsen's Frosted Strawberry Japanese Maple has reticulated, narrow leaves. They emerge bright strawberry pink with darker pink veins in spring. In summer, they turn a frosted cream with a pink blush and green veins. Fall color are from yellows to reds. Olsen's frosted Strawberry Japanese Maple is a seedling from the Aka Shigatatsu Sawa.
Olson's Frosted Strawberry has the truest pink leaf color of any Japanese Maple variety we have grown. In the spring the leaves emerge a strawberry-pink and then develop lighter pink to white variegation along the darker veins over the next few weeks. This is a great companion to any of the light green Japanese Maples like 'Seiryu' or even just green seedlings. We just planted an Olson's Frosted Strawberry with a green seedling on each side in our landscape and are very excited to see how these trees look together once they fill in.
The habit is somewhat weeping but is more upright than 'Inaba Shidare' or 'Dissectum' with a few mostly upright stems produced each year. We stake a central leader to about 5 feet tall and then let the plant produce drooping branches from there to form a medium sized shrub where the leaves are at or just below eye level.

Care and Receiving Your Tree
Like with other plants that are shipped bare root, you should plant your tree as soon as possible. When planting be sure to spread the roots out a little so they are not clumped together at the bottom of the hole. Japanese Maples want the top of their root crown to be covered with just an inch of soil - be careful not to apply heavy mulch directly on top of the roots as this can suffocate them. Water heavily as soon as you plant your tree but after that be careful not to overwater this beautiful specimen - Japanese Maples prefer long but less frequent watering. During the growing season we water our established trees for two hours once per week, depending on the climate and how hot/dry the weather is (maybe a little more frequently during the hottest part of the year and less frequently during spring and fall when it is cooler). If you are growing your Japanese Maples in containers be sure to use a well-drained soil mix (not peat or compost based, bark based soils do best) and water whenever the soil starts to dry out.

Japanese Maples do best when fertilized in the spring, we recommend a slow release pellet like Osmocote Plus in April. Don't apply fertilizer later than mid-June because it will encourage too much late season growth that will not have time to harden off enough for winter. The exact formula doesn't matter too much, we usually use 15-10-10 but any other works fine for Japanese Maples. Osmocote is the brand we use because it releases steadily for several months and so there is very little risk of over-fertilizing your plants.

Olsen’s Frosted Strawberry is a pink cultivar with a frosted layer of white over the pink, hence the name. The leaves are reticulated showing dark green veins. This small, slow growing shrub-like maple may reach 6′ in 10 years. The wonderful frosted pink spring leaves fade somewhat during the summer, as do many maples, but then the fall color explodes into a fantastic scarlet-red finish. Considered a dwarf, this maple is a very nice selection for a water feature or a patio container. Morning sun with afternoon shade is recommended to prevent leaf burn.

A seedling from 'Aka shigitatsu sawa with narrower serrated lobes. Leaves emerge in spring strawberry red with cream highlights and mature with pink veins. Best planted where it is sheltered from hot afternoon sun.
Olsen's Frosted Strawberry was found as a seedling of Aka shigitatsu sawa by Harry Olsen. Reticulated, narrowly lobed leaves emerge in strawberry pink and coral shades and then change into a lovely variegated leaf. Sun and heat tolerant and similiar in shape to parent plant. Growth Rate medium
Yes, the picture is real. This variety is completely stunning! New leaves emerge bright pink with darker veins. Discovered as a seedling of Aka shigitatsu sawa by Harry Olsen. Seems to have the same growth habit and leaf shape but with leaf lobes slightly narrower and MUCH better color. This Maple will add "Wow" to your landscape unlike any other.
Acer palmatum 'Olsen's Frosted Strawberry' Variegated Japanese Maple Tree - great new palmatum cultivar discovered from a seedling of Aka shigitatsu sawa by Harry Olsen. This new cultivar is surely a show stopper and will attract attention in your landscape. Leaves emerge with strawberry cream colors and then change into great shades of pinks, reds, whites, and greens. Seems to hold the heat and tolerate sun well. The leaves are more narrow lobed than Aka shigitatsu sawa.
Olsen's is my new favorite palmatum. It is a pink reticulate, slow growing and spreading.
MATSUMURE, variegated. Color! Color! Color! The foliage comes out in the spring with deep pink deeply cut leaves with darker veins, then turns cream with a pink blush ground and rich green veining. This seedling selection of Harry Olsen is turely outstanding.
