Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The rich black-purple-red tones of this excellent cultivar are unusual (and evidently like those of a wet heron); the slenderly pointed and widely spread ?finger? of its leaves give this upright 15-20' tree a lacy look. PSh/M
The leaves of 'Nuresagi' open to a purplish-red in spring which holds in summer, although sometimes suffused with green or with a bluish overtone. Its name means "wet heron". Fall color is a deep red. This vigorous grower can reach 16 feet in ten years and can tolerate full sun.
Matsumurae Group - red. Dark purple to black leaves with red veins differentiate this distinguished cultivar. On older plants the dark bark develops whitish striations similar to those on the Snakebark maples. This is the only Japanese maple variety we know that has this trait. Strong grower, 10-12' in ten years, and 20' tall eventually. Red color is as beautiful as any tree in autumn. Name means "wet heron" in Japan, where the cultivar originated before 1882

Deep purple-red leaves often with distinct veins. Scarlet in fall, vigorous USDA zones 5-9
This graceful dark purple upright may reach 15'. Zone 5.
MATSUMURAE, red. The black-purple, 7-lobed leaves are cut almost to the petioles, appearing as slender, pointed fingers. Toward fall, they maintain their purplish color but the red veining becomes stronger. Vigorous and upright growing, it needs room to develop and show the strong branching structure. A beautiful Japanese maple!
