This smallest of the delicately-textured red linearilobums has tiny (2-3") leaves with finely-tipped strap-like lobes that keep their red color spring into fall; a unique rounded 3-6' upright shrub-tree. S-PSh/M

‘Beni ubi gohan’ is a lovely red dwarf only reaching 6′ tall at maturity. The name in Japanese means “five long red fingers” and it is in the linearilobum group of maples, which means the leaves are thin, string-like and in this case dense. The overall growth habit is compact compared to other maples, which makes for an excellent choice in a small garden or a patio container. New growth is light red turning to dark red for the summer. Unlike most JMs that fade in the summer – the dark red color of this ‘Beni’ holds up well during hot summer months. In the fall the color becomes a beautiful scarlet red. Beni ubi gohan is a moderate grower and is sought after by bonsai enthusiasts when the graft is low.
