Baldsmith Japanese Maple is a distinctive laceleaf maple with a show of color like no other. The finely dissected leaves emerge in spring as bright orange/red. Summer colors are green tinged with pink and orange. Autumn colors bring bright yellow with orange and red hues. Baldsmith Japanese Maple is a slow grower with a weeping, cascading/pendulous habit.

Lacy leaves emerge light, bright orange-red, then become a multicolor of greens, pinks, oranges and reds in summer. Bright yellow/orange fall color. Has a very distinctive look because of flowing lines of delicate foliage.

In spite of its unprepossessing name, Baldsmith has become popular among the dissectums; it has the same cascading habit, but the leaf color changes throughout the season beginning with tones of pink and orange, adding green in the summer and turning many shades of orange and red in the fall. Unfortunately it is not wildly vigorous, but it is definitely worth waiting for it to grow. I have another cultivar 'Watnong' (also unfortunately named) which may be the same cultivar. zone 6.
