Leaves are reddish purple, becoming green and red in the summer. This sparsely branched shrubby tree has a round topped form at maturity. Growth Rate medium
Distinguishing this cultivar are the purplish-red leaves with an undertone of green showing through. New foliage is a unique burned orange color which fades to green-bronze for summer. Bright red in the Fall.
Spring color is purple-red but mostly green in the summer. Leaves with deep serrations on lobes. Summer growth may be yellowish green. Fall color in scarlet shades. At maturity, 12-18 ft. tall.
Matsumurae Group -red ? Color and deeply divided leaf lobes offer special interest. Spring leaves are purplish-red turning to green with some red in summer. Fall colors are scarlet. Spring leaves emerge yellow-orange, then turn deep green with red cast to surface. Red fall color. In time, outer shoots take on cascading form. The English translation means "purple of the East".
MATSUMURAE, red. The handsome hues of this maple contrast well with other red-leaved forms. There is a slight purple cast to the red, with an undertone of green showing through. Midsummer, the leaves become deep green with a reddish tone. Rapid early growth, developing into a round topped form. Outside limbs appear to have a cascading shape with maturity on this sparsely branched, shrubby tree.
