Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Combine the charming contorted habit of Harry Lauder?s Walking Stick with deep-purple-red young foliage, catkins and fruit and you have this delightful 6-12' small tree/large shrub: an all season beauty. S-PSh/M PP16048
Naturally twisted branches, purple red contorted leaves turn reddish-green then burgundy red in fall. Zones 4-8.
Twisted stems with dainty catkins in winter and purple-red leaves in spring make this new find a must have. Deciduous shrub 6' x 6'
As soon as I saw the red leafed upright filbert, Rotezellar, I have been happily anticipating a red leafed contorted filbert, and it is here. The red leaves don't last into mid summer, but it is totally worth it to have the early crimson color and of course the catkins are pink in the late winter. The only drawback is that we are still having to graft the tree so there will be some suckering, but it is not onerous if you just do it once a year. After all regular Harry Lauder's walking stick was grafted for decades until somebody finally started layering them fairly recently.
This is a new cultivar of Harry Lauders Walking Stick from Europe. The plant is contorted everywhere (We haven't checked the roots yet.). The difference is C. Red Majestic has deep purple foliage so will make a striking plant year round. This is one of the first offerings of C. Red Majectic.
