Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the tallest and noblest of firs, with short blue-green needles which point upwards along the short stiff branches; a very beautiful specimen and a good Christmas tree. S-PSh/M
The Noble Fir, known as Abies procera or Abies nobilis, is one of the largest and strongest of the true fir species and is by far among the best choices for a cut or living Christmas tree due to its dense foliage and strong branches. Noble Fir trees grow at high elevations and are often the first conifers to establish after devastating events such as fires, clear cuts, and landslides. In fact, Noble Firs have established some of the first forests to regrow in areas that were obliterated in the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption.

Noble Firs are an excellent addition to landscapes in northern climates where the summers have lower humidity, however as a high elevation species Noble Firs don't thrive in hot, humid climates.

The Noble fir is a magnificent tree found in the higher slopes of the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest. It is a symmetrically pyramidal to narrow tree with broad spreading branches. The curved, erect needles are blue green with white stomatal bands on both sides.
Conifer with lovely gray-blue needles, conical when young; becomes broad rounded top, Hardy to Zone 5
An Oregon favorite, this tall growing, slender tree is truly noble in its appearance. The deeply furrowed, dark brown bark is visible amidst the branches of densely arranged, slightly bent needles of bluish-green. Fantastic, long, cylindrical cones are produced on mature trees. Often used for specimen Christmas trees. It can be containerized for years and brought in for the holidays.
