A conical Spanish fir with stiff, blue needles that whorl around the stems. Unique to this species. Native habitat are the forests in southern Spain. Too large and heavy for mail order.
The blue form of the Spanish fir is a handsome and stately tree, conical and upright, with stiff bluish needles. Growth Rate medium, 6-12" annually
The steel-blue, waxy needles of this Spanish fir have a very distinctive look. Short and stiff, they appear to radiate around the stems, making it difficult to confuse this variety with other conifers. The tree has a conical form when young, but can develop a more irregular shape as it matures.
Bright Blue-grey growth, stiff needles radiate from columnar in youth becomes pyramidal. Hardy to Zone 7.
This very delightful Spanish Fir is known for its bottle brush needles which are stiff, yet appealing to touch. 'Glauca' is the blue needle form which is much desired. With an annual growth rate of 6-12", a mature tree will reach 60'.
