The stiff, pointed needles of this Spanish fir develop a gorgeous golden cast over silver-blue. They appear to radiate around the stems and provide great texture. Slow-growing, the striking tree can be conical or somewhat irregular.
Sulfur-yellow needles make this slow-growing flat-topped shrub a real eye-catcher but also demand some shade to prevent sunburn. PSh/M
Golden Spanish Fir is a colorful variety with golden new tips against blue older growth. Its straight needles are quite unique and don't look or feel like any other Fir tree with their perfectly even distribution that forms cylindrical branches and twigs. Spanish Firs are native to warmer climates than most other species and so are much happier in hot climates than a typical Fir tree. For this variety the golden color looks best when given a small amount of afternoon shade when grown in areas where summer temperatures get above 95 or 100 degrees regularly. They do best when grown in well drained soil and watered deeply but infrequently through the summer.
A slow growing, sprawling tree, unless properly trained. Use of stakes and pruning may be used to develop a tidy “fir” look. The new needles are bright, golden-yellow, older foliage is greener. Growth Rate slow
A blue Spanish Fir. A conical plant with stiff, blue leaves that whorl around the stems. No other species like this. Will make a 60' tree. Plant is found naturally in southern Spain. Grafted Firs
Bright yellow new growth contrasts with stiff green needles, reddish cones. Hardy Zones 6-8.
The short, rigid, sulfur yellow needles on randomly arranged branches are quite alluring. The overall appearance of the young plant is bushy, but as it matures, a leader is formed and it takes the form of a more pyramidal tree. Grows 3-6" a year.
