Rare?restricted to the Ida Mts in NW Asiatic Turkey, the range of this attractive fir is between that of A.cephalonica and A.bornmuellerana which it resembles with its shiny dark-green needles. S-PSh/M
Very similar to the Nordmann Fir but tougher and faster growing, the Turkish Fir is far more heat tolerant than most other species and is a good choice for the Southwest. The dense foliage is very dark green with bright lime colored new tips in the spring and early summer on a smooth conical branch structure. These trees make excellent living Christmas trees and are also popular for cut Christmas tree growers. The roots are more tolerant of damp soils than most other Fir species and so is a much better choice for irrigated garden landscapes.
Also known as the Black Sea Fir.
This selection of Nordman fir has denser more blunt needles that the standard.
Abies bornmuelleriana Turkish Fir - A nice form native to the Black Sea and Turkey. Needles stick upwards revealing the nice silvery undersides great smelling needles.
Dark gray to black bark, this tree will grow to about 75 feet. It comes from Northern Turkey in the mountains south of the Black Sea. A good looking fir that is not readily available.
