Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the best-loved trees of the North Woods, a mere whiff of its fragrant, shining, dark-green needles (silvery beneath), conjures up memories. Spire-like to 50-70' with pendulous lower limbs sweeping the ground and grey bark which becomes fissured and scaly with age. All of its wonderful attributes make it one of the most commonly grown Christmas trees. S-PSh/M
At lower elevations this fir can grow to 60-90', but in higher elevations, it will stay lower and more prostrate. It is generally stiff in habit and pyramidal in shape. With its lustrous dark green needles and dark purple cones (even when young), it is used mainly as a specimen tree.
