Podophyllum delavayi is a broadleaf deciduous perennial aquatic herb with green, purple and variegated foliage. In spring red flowers emerge. Grows well with mostly shade - shade and even moisture - regular water. Does well in rich soil.
Podophyllum delavayi is a Chinese mayapple. It is one of most exciting shade perennials. Fuzzy umbrellas emerge with dark snakeskin markings, often on a red background, changing to a patterned green. Mature leaves develop deep, notched serrations. Flowers can be red, pink, or white and are followed by apricot coloured fruit. Also called P. veitchii or Dysosma veitchii.
Chinese Mayapple. One of the great shade plants with just outrageous new growth when the bold and distinctly lobed leafed are colored as if in ochre velvet and patterned as if on psychedelics. The broadly rounded acutely lobed leaves shield the red flowers beneath. Rich moist soil.
