(MIOGA GINGER) Unusual edible plant that grows in cool winter areas. It forms a colony of stems 30-40" tall and 3-4' wide with pretty green leaves on stems that provide the tropical look of ginger in a temperate garden! This is a winter dormant perennial.
A hardy ginger form Japan and Korea with exotic looking edible yellow flowers it is hardy to at least -15 °F apparently it's grown for its flower buds. Before they open, picked and used in stir fry, with a milder flavor than the more familiar spicy ginger root (Z. officinale). ZONE 6
Mioga Ginger. A treasured food crop in Japan where the new shoots are prized as a vegetable and the flower buds are considered a delicacy. This clumps up quickly in rich moist soil in shade and produces exotic Iris-like creamy white flowers at ground level in late summer and fall.
