Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Zingiber mioga ‘Nafaku’, or Dancing Crane Ginger, is a tropical, hardy ginger displaying highly variegated, broad leaves with splashes of green and white. This upright, clumping perennial is deciduous and emerges late in Spring. Dancing Crane Ginger is best in moist, rich, well-drained soil with regular water. This plant makes a great tropical accent, in tall borders, or for cut flowers. The milky sap in the cones is used as a shampoo in Hawaii.
A rare and unusual plant – 24-36” tall upright stems with pretty variegation – tropical look – all parts of this plant are edible, however, eating it would be a shame! Small yellow flowers form at the base of the plant seem incidental to the attractive stalks of outstanding foliage! Good soil, light shade, average moisture.
This variegated form of this culinary ginger from Japan has leaves that are margined and feathered with white. This is probably the hardiest of the true gingers. The species is grown as a food plant in Japan for its edible young shoots and flower buds.
