Salvia darcyi Vermillion Bluffs is an extra hardy version of the species that makes a huge four feet tall by 3 feet wide clump of light green leaves topped in summer by spikes of bright orange-red flowers. A hummingbird magnet. Exceptionally long blooming, for flowers all summer long.
Brilliant cardinal-red spires in late summer and fall attract hummingbirds. It has proven hardy under protected conditions in Denver over the last 5 years. Perennial. Performs best in loamy soils. USDA zones 5b-10 (up to 5,500').
