Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This relative of the more widely known canyon live oak, q. chry occurs only on Santa Cruz Island off the S. Cal coast. A compact tree, to 25 ft or so in the garden (yes it can get larger but we'll all be dead by then) with blunted nearly tria. leaves of grey green lighter on the undersides, with multiply branching trunk. Easy in the garden anywhere west of the Sierra Cascade ranges but light on the summer water. Evergreen. Upper zone 7. Sun and good drainage.
