Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Lardizabala, or Zabala Fruit, is an evergreen, fruit-bearing liana (a woody vine that uses trees for support) and is native to central and southern Chile. Its look is distinct, with dramatic maroon/brown flowers and sausage-shaped fruit. The fruit is highly sought-after and said to be sweet and pulpy. The plants may not be self-fertile so two plants might required for the plant to fruit, similar to its cousins the Akebia vines. Our plants are all seed grown, so we’d recommend buying two plants if you want fruit. Cold hardy to USDA zone 8 and above, or to 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
Evergreen climber from the forests of Chile raised from seed collected in 2005. White flowers on 15-20 ft vine.
A very attractive, evergreen vine from south central Chile growing in a most reasonable manner to about 10' with matte green leaves coated powder blue underneath and small pinkish white flowers in early spring leading to bluish black fruit when more than one clone is about. This collection from Randall Hitchin in 2005 is good where a vine is needed that won't eat the world. Frost hardy and remaining evergreen to the bottom of USDA zone 8 in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Good container spiller. RCH 425
