    Spiny, indeed, this lowing growing shrub is very decorative with dark green, shiny leaves and the brightest, scarlet flowers in spring (on last year's stems). A new plant and fine ground cover, expected to remain under 2' tall, spreading to 4' wide, and easily maintained to size. Naturally summer deciduous in dry climates, leafing out with fall and winter rains. Likes full sun and well-drained soil. Frost hardy to 10 °F, USDA zone 8.
