From afar, its easy to mistake this Cistus' pure white, 5 in. wide flowers for those of a Romneya. Against cinnamon-colored stems and two-toned leathery leaves that are a glistening bright green on top and silver beneath, the frilly, unusually large, gold-centered blooms deliver an awe-inspiring presentation. Yielding a sticky, sweetly fragrant resin known as Labdanum, the vigorous growing 'Bennett's White' can be planted with Lavandula 'Ana Luisa' in a dry Mediterranean garden where its superlative flowers and pleasant aroma will undoubtedly turn quite a few heads.
White flowered rock rose, 4 x 4 ft with narrow leaves. This has been a particularly vigorous one for us, filling its allotted space within a season or two and providing a long season of flowering. After the second year, we shear it back about 1/3 to maintain compactness, making sure it's still in green wood. Reflowers in fall but the main show is April, May, and June. This is a tough-love plant needing minimal summer moisture and minerally soil. Bright light. Cold hardy to USDA zone 8.
Enormous silky white flowers with vibrant gold centers and dark green leaves. Large rounded buds are ornamental as well. Evergreen shrub 3' x 3'
