Still uncommon in cultivation this delightful evergreen 15' shrub from China is unique in that it has a single juvenile leaf that matures into a 3-lobed shiny dark green leaf, in cooler temperatures the leaves turns a pretty bronze, sprays of creamy-green flowers become interesting black fruit; easy-going and pest resistant! Eric Hammond's collection from Sichuan, China for Heronswood Nursery in 1997. Fully evergreen here, zone 7, it makes a large shrub, 10' in shade but smaller in full sun, to 5' tall. Bronzing in the winter cold, the shiny dark green leaves are pest free. Similar to D. trifidus, we haven't yet settled on what the correct species name is.
A flamboyant small evergreen tree for the garden. The exotic texture is met with the added bonus of great frost hardiness, this plant grows into an umbrella of 8-10' or more, producing wands of 2-3 lobed, evergreen leaves. The new leaves are very showy emerging in spring. Good soil and some summer water in sun to part shade makes this plant happy. Frost hardy to USDA zone 7. Unusual and beautiful. [342-77-A]
