Beautiful small, umbrella-shaped, tree or large shrub to 10’; deciduous green leaves emarginated with a broad band of cream make it worthy of a spot in the garden! Add very fragrant tubular clusters of white flowers in late summer followed by scarlet calyx enclosing turquoise berries and you can forgive its tendency to sucker…average soil, sun to part sun and regular moisture.
We have had a plant of this variegated shrub for years but haven’t been able to propagate it. We found these plants as rooted cuttings. The heart- shaped leaves are pretty yellow and green all summer.
Harlequin Glorybower, a member of the Verbenacaea, not as stunning as C. bungeana its still a pretty plant in its own right, Dirr was a bit hard on it trichotomum is much more well behaved in the garden than bungeana. 'Carnival' is a good variegated plant with wide creamy margined leaves, the fragrant white flowers and blue berries are an added advantage; it will dieback here except in the mildest of winters.
Like small Hosta leaves brightly splashed with creamy white to light green variegation, the foliage of this 8-12' shrub is only part of its beauty it also offers very fragrant late summer flowers & bright blue fruit. Sun/Med
