Nursery contributed plant descriptions

We first laid eyes upon this gorgeous small tree -- a collection by Cliff Parks -- at the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC. After over half a dozen years in the ground it had produced its waxy white terminal flowers subtended by long, 8" leaves covered by a halo of coppery indumentum. Slightly more drought tolerant than some, it still loves generous watering with good drainage and ample nutrients with a hit or two of iron in the spring. A plant we had long thought too tender, it has withstood temperatures in the vicinity of 0 °F unscathed, USDA zone 7, and will eventually be a downright handsome tree to 30' or more in the garden.
