Leaves are shiny, dark green, with red indumentum on the undersides. Spring flowers are particularly showy, large, cup-shaped and fragrant. Does well in sun to part shade with regular summer water until well established. Not recommended for parking strips because of root invasions. Frost hardy to 0 °F, USDA zone 7.
