Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An improved pink selection that produces a profusion of 4-6" pink flower spikes that are borne throughout summer on a large shrub or small tree with a spreading to upright habit. A vigorous growing deciduous shrub with virtually no pests or diseases. Selected by the noted plant guru Herbert Kelly, Jr. Vitex are great for summer color and their large spikes of colorful flowers attract butterflies and bees. Vitex are adaptable to a wide variety of soil types and are considered to be drought tolerant enough to be suitable for Xeric gardens. These durable and easily grown shrubs are basically pest and disease free, are deer resistant, and are moderately salt tolerant. Removing spent flowers and seed heads will promote the production of wave after wave of new flowers throughout the summer and into fall.
Deciduous, large shrub or small tree, to 10' tall x 15' wide, useful as a single specimen or dense hedge in the dry garden. Compound leaves, fragrant and up to 4” long, are green above and gray on the undersides. Particularly lovely when flowering in mid summer in 3-6” spikes of, in this "sensational” form, pink flowers. Originally from southern Europe and Asia, these grow in full sun and lean soil with little summer water once established. Frost hardy to 0 °F, USDA zone 7.
