Pinkish-bronze new growth and clouds of pink buds give this 8-10' ?giant? a soft gentle look while deep-green foliage on reddish stems is the perfect background for huge mauve lacecaps ringed in white Aug-Nov. PSh/M
Large pink clouds of buds and pinkish bronze, downy new growth bring a soft look to this noble, rarely cultivated Hydrangea. Mounted on stout fuzzy stems, wide, hairy serrated foliage, with red-hued petioles, provides a graceful deep green foil for the enormous mauve lacecaps ringed by white bracts. Adequate water and bright shade will ensure 'Rocklon's prosperity, while Corydalis and Stylophorum diphyllum offer contrasting texture beneath.
We love this leaf and dramatic bloom For all you Aspera lovers out there, this is going to be your favorite. The slender leaf is just slightly rough (like fine sandpaper) with a dark green top and pale green underside. Rocklin is a fantastic foliage plant for contrasting color and texture. This plant grows more upright and has super sized pale pink to purple sterile flowers and fertile florets of vibrant purple. It blooms July through first frost, but keep out of the cold winds as it is as sensitive as the other Aspera family.
Unusual hydrangea selected for its dark purple stems and petioles and for flowers that are bigger than a small child's head, white lace-caps appearing from pinkish buds. Large, deciduous shrub, to 12' tall x 8' wide, with rich green, serrated leaves making a good background for the floral display. Best in half sun or dappled shade with summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7.
