Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Profuse blooms of fragrant, wonderfully dark bluish-purple flowers cover this shrub resembling dark storm clouds. The late-summer blossoms contrast well with attractive silver foliage on this 2-3' easy going plant. A fantastic choice for a mass planting and a knock out for containers too; flowers late in the season when many other plants are finished. S/M-D
This compact, mounding shrub displays bluish-purple, fragrant blooms in summer.
A 3'x3' deciduous shrub, 'Dark Knight' has the deepest blue color of any of its relatives and a profusion of flower clusters. Silver beneath the small lanceolate leaves augments the blue! Its habit is upright, rounded, and tidy, and it blooms on new growth, so if you'd like it to be dense and especially floriferous, prune it back hard in early spring. Even if it freezes back in a harsh winter, it's likely to resurrect from the base. Butterflies approve of the flowers!
A spectacular abundance of tiny round buds and vibrant whorled blooms that look fantastic in cut arrangements mantles the fine textured bushy foundation described by compact upright stems and pewter-tinged green foliage with silver undersides. Touted as the best and the bluest of all Caryopteris, 'Dark Knight's swank low mounding profile can be staged right up front, tucked next to Zauschneria 'Wayne's Silver' or ushered into smaller gardens.
Deciduous perennial or subshrub to 3' tall and as wide. This cultivar is noted for its deep blue flowers in summer and fall and for the aromatic nature of its silvery foliage. Plant in full sun with moderate water in combinations with other gray-leafed plants like Artemisia 'Powis Castle' and Stachys 'Silver Carpet'. Hardy to 0 °F. Garden origin.
Deep blue fragrant flowers. Compact.
Every garden should have a Caryopteris. Mounded shrub with spectacular blue flowers when few other shrubs are blooming. Pleasant scent. These plants are absolute butterfly magnets. Dark Knight has fragrant, dark blue flowers with darker silver gray-green leaves. Blooms about 3 weeks earlier than Longwood Blue, extending the season. FIRST CHOICE AWARD 1996.

Deep blue flowers contrast nicely with the silvery gray green leaves on this low growing cultivar. The deepest blue of the Bluebeard family.

The bluest of the blue flowers adorn this small shrub from late summer to frost. Bees and hummers love 'em. A low-growing, deciduous shrub, to 3-4 ft tall and wide, with long gray-green leaves on arching branches, easily cut back to maintain size. Likes good drainage, in all but heavy, wet clay, in full to part sun with little summer water once established. Said to be deer resistant. Definitely frost hardy down to -20F, USDA zone 5. Does well in container.
