Mars Midget' is a dwarf, clump-forming seed strain of this species that has the same scabiosa-like, ruby-red flower heads (to two inches across) over a long early summer to autumn bloom period but on plants that are half the height of the species (about one and a half feet). Dwarf, scabiosa relative, to only 16" tall and wide, with ruby red flowers from early summer through autumn -- more if deadheaded. Best in full sun to to part shade in well-drained soil with regular summer moisture. A die back perennial that returns in the spring. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.
