Beni Schichihenge Japanese Maple is a variegated semi-dwarf maple that starts out with fresh green leaves edged in white and pink. While most Japanese maples are prized for their fall color, the Beni Schichihenge really shines in spring. The Japanese translation for Beni Schichihenge means red and changing. The variegation of Beni Schichihenge Japanese Maple makes every leaf seem unique. The pink fades slightly to a cream color through fall. Fall color is a bright magenta.
This shrubby cultivar is somewhat narrow and upright. The pink/orange foliage is variegated with green and white. The red branch tips and petioles combined with the variegation make for a very favorable shrub/tree. Growth Rate slow
'Beni shichihenge' is another show-stopper in any garden. Each leaf is outlined in pink, which then changes to white in summer. It lives up to its name, which means "red and changeful". In fall the margins become an orange-red. This outstanding maple can grow to 10 feet in ten years. Best grown in partial shade. This cultivar is also known as 'Beni schishihenge' and 'Beni shishihenge'.
Acer palmatum 'Beni schichihenge' - An outstandingly variegated Japanese Maple, 'Beni schichihenge' is quite similar to the better known 'Butterfly', differing mainly in that the cream-to-pink variegation of the latter is replaced by a darker orange-red. It is a smallish shrub to 8-12'
Interesting variegation and varied leaf shape distinguish this slow-growing, upright Japanese maple. Light green new leaves emerge with lipstick red margins; as the basic leaf color turns bluish-green, the margins fade to creamy white with a pink-orange blush. Leaf shapes vary too: some are slender and uniform; others are contorted and wider. Fall produces a bright orange and gold display.
