This delicate looking but tough succulent groundcover only reaches 3" tall and forms a bright-green mat up to 2' wide. The prefect choice as a lawn alternative, between stepping stones or for container gardening. Rupturewort is soft to walk on, evergreen, and can tolerate foot traffic almost as well as grass, making it the perfect ground cover. It does get inconspicuous lime-green flowers, but they are barely detectable. Winter cold brings pretty shades of bronzy-purple to the foliage. Grows well in poor soils and can take sun or part shade. S-PSh/M-D
A luxurious green carpet for outdoors…no vacuuming required! Lies absolutely FLAT and spreads to about 2' wide. The dense weave of leaves is a vibrant green and makes a great 'low pile' rugging for silver leafed plants and also offsets dark green leafed selections as well. Has a mossy look, no flowers to speak of (no bees), is evergreen and grows in sun to part shade. Perfect between stepping stones, in parking strips and around rocks in well drained soils. Historically used to treat cuts (herniated skin).
This little mat-forming sedum looks almost like a miniature thyme. For troughs, dish gardens and crevices.
Zn 5. White flower. Tiny green leaves. Mounding.
One of the best small scale meadow or mini lawn plants. Green Carpet features minute fleshy leaves on creeping stems which form a dense green mat. Flowers of tiny white stars bloom in summer. For thick, lush results, give ample water with good drainage. Full to partial sun, but protect from burning sun in hot climates. Considered an evergreen, but will turn red in colder areas, adding much needed color in winter. Perfect as mini scene lawn or meadow. Excellent in troughs or rock garden, can be used as lawn substitute in regular gardens. Photo shows 3 inch tall Libby, if she were standing, and her 2 inch dog Benji.
Not a sedum at all, the proper genus is Valantia, probably Valantia muralis, but we'll keep it under sedum for now because that is what people know it as. Whatever the name, a lovely little plant forming a tiny flat carpet with microscopic leaves. You would almost be forgiven for mistaking it for a moss. Lovely in a rock garden forming a carpet between bigger plants, and all fairy gardeners and miniature landscapers should have this on hand to use for little 'lawns' zone 5 -Joseph
Rupturewort- A perennial ground cover hardy in zones 5-9. Green flowers in mid summer. Full sun to part shade and it is drought tolerant, and deer resistant. Tiny deep green foliage forms a dense evergreen carpet 1" high. Nearly indestructable making an excellent choice for planting between flagstone and walkways.
