Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Camassia quamash 'Orion' is a gorgeous 1913 selection of our BC native with true blue to violet-blue, starry, lily-like flowers on slender stems in spring from a tuft of strap-like foliage. It blooms between spring bulbs and summer perennials and, unlike most bulbs, prefers moisture. This species naturalizes well, is deer and rodent resistant, and is a traditional food crop of First Nations cultures in and around the southern coastal parts of our province. Camassia grow in winter-wet soils that dry out in summer which means they will be tolerant of clay-heavy garden soils.
This selection has deep violet blue, star shaped flowers in spikes, May to June. This 15-18" tall naturalizing bulbous perennial enjoys moist to wet soil, at least during the bloom period. Tolerant of clay soil & blooms best in full sun. Ours thrives at pond edge and competes with native grasses, poking its deep blue spires up every May. Easy to grow.
Blooms: spring-summer, sky blue, yellow stamen/ early emerging, blue-green foliage Zone 3-9. 24", PNW, part shade-sun, moist-dry, well drained
