Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This, one of several forms revolving around or closely related to this lovely fig, was shared with us by plantsman Dan Hinkley, its having been successful for several years in his garden near Seattle,WA. To 6' or more and deciduous with red-tinted stems and long, narrow leaves, lobed toward the end and also tinted an orange-red in sun. We have found it to be an endearing texture in our garden. Has been frost hardy to 12 °F in Washington so we are rating this as at least low USDA Zone 8 though relatives have sailed through mid Zone 7, often resprouting vigorously from the base. We here at Cistus have a "thing” for the genus ficus so we are very happy with this one. Seems to tolerate quite a bit of drought but we push ours along a bit with extra summer water and at least half sun for best stem and leaf color.
