The name of this wonderful Dogwood gives you an idea how amazingly prolific the flowers are, like the stars in the Milky Way! The many flowers also bring abundant, edible, large red fruits (much loved by birds if left on the tree). Creates a bushy tree form to 20' and showcases very attractive tan and gray bark. S-PSh/M
Milky Way Kousa Dogwood is one of the most popular cultivars of dogwood on the market. The pointed, milky white flowers of the Milky Way dogwood bloom profusely in the spring followed by red berry-like fruits that attract birds. Foliage turns a reddish-purple color in the fall. Milky Way is a great addition to any yard. This dogwood needs pruning early in it's life to retain the "dogwood canopy" shape. Due to state restrictions, we cannot ship this item to Florida.
This variety is actually a group of similar white flowering C. kousas. Wayside Gardens of Mentor, OH back in the 30’s named grafts they took from several plants C. kousa ‘Milky Way’. Whatever this plant is a good standard heavy blooming C. kousa. Great fall foliage and as the tree matures it gets a beautiful flaking bark.
'Milky Way' is a diminutive, stout form with dense branching structure and dark green, somewhat glossy foliage turning pink-red in fall. Extremely prolific in flower and fruit! Anthracnose resistant small tree 12' x 12'Minimum temperature: -20°F
Known as one of the most prolific white blooming kousas. The original 'Milky Way' budwood came from 15 or so 'Milky Way' seedlings at Wayside Gardens and after 50 years, the name stands widely recognized and an easy sell to your client base. Milky Way seedlings are no substitute for these grafted plants.
Many star-shaped white flowers, strawberry-like fruit, reddish fall color. USDA Zones 5-8.
One of my favorite dogwoods, Milkyway is a dense shrubby small tree that is completely covered with white blooms in the late spring; the leaves are washed with white, but you have to be close to see it, but the killer quality of this tree is the fruit--it is very large and absolutely delicious if you squeeze the pulp into your mouth; the outside is a little bitter, but the inside is better than the finest custard. zone 5
