The new foliage of this lovely small tree (to 10' in 10 years) emerges amber with purple-black veins and then darkens through the season. S-PSh/M
Beautiful, reticulated orange-colored leaves have deeper, reddish color toward the tips. This beautiful, elegant maple will form a small tree with a bushy canopy.
Amber Ghost is another of our favorite cultivars in the ‘Ghost Series’ developed by Talon Buchholz of Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery in Gaston, Oregon. A distinguishing feature of Amber Ghost is the purple color of new bark. A small to medium sized tree with variegated reticulated leaves. The term reticulated relates to the visibility of the veins in the leaves. The leaves vary from amber to green and lavender to a darker purple red tone. Often the leaves are tinged with different colors of purple hues around the edges which provides the unusual look that is distinctive in the Ghost Series. As with other variegated maples some shade in hot afternoon sun is preferred. Fall colors range from gold to orange to scarlet. A collector’s must. This cultivar is highly desired for a smaller partial shade garden. Placement in either a Northern or Eastern location would add color and interest to a garden. A moderate growing maple Amber Ghost may reach 6′ high and nearly as wide. These photos show the wonderful color variations of this Ghost Maple. Once established this cultivar is hardy to USDA zone 5.

The spring leaves of this little beauty emerge with a delightful amber color with dark veins.During the summer the leaves become darker. Fall will bring wonderful shades of yellow and orange.
Acer palmatum 'Aka shigitatsu sawa' - An upright deciduous Japanese Maple Tree. Spring leaves emerge with pink and amber colors and darkly-contrasting veins (reticulation). Summer brings on increasingly-deeper amber tones until fall when strong reds and golds take over. Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil.
New growth pink & amber hues w/contrasting veins. Summer deeper amber tones, fall fiery reds & golds
One of the larger leaves of the "Ghost Series." Opens in spring with bright-red turning into pink amber. Matures light green with a golden overtone.
As with all the ghosts, the operative word is reticulation. They are all charming in the spring, and this one being, well, amber, has a long shelf life.
PALMATUM, variegated. A vigorous entry in the "Ghost" series with larger leaves than most. The apricot-amber blush in the new foliage gives it it's name. The light and dark green reticulated leaves of summer are also eye-catching, as are the red and orange fall leaves.
