Brilliant cream-to-sulphur-yellow needles make this slow growing, eventually open, medium-sized pyramid a real eye-catcher!... even from a distance. S/M
This drama queen columnar conifer with intense golden yellow foliage in spring and summer cannot be ignored!! Expect 8-10' high & 4' wide in ten years…mature size about 25'h high and 10' wide. Full sun…well drained humus rich soil,…summer irrigation. A 'Great Plant Picks' for the PNW selection. Outstanding!
New growth emerges with a beautiful yellow-white color, contrasting nicely with the dark-green color of the older foliage. This cultivar develops into a broad, upright tree.
Grows 6-12 inches a year. Sulphur-yellow sprays are nearly white at the ends. Spectacular color and texture. Avoid planting in a confined space as old trees, though columnar, will be quite wide at the base. Also sold as Cryptomeria japonic 'Sekkan-sugi'
Yellow needles have white tips in winter. Shear for brighter new growth & denser habit. Zones 6-9.
This medium to fast grower does not usually have a single leader. Bushy in nature, the needles are a very light yellow with some green. Sensitive to sunburn but well worth it if you have a spot for it in dappled or light shade.

Introduced from Japan around 1970, this elegant, small, columnar tree reaches about 8-10 ft tall x 4 ft wide in 10 years -- 25 x 10 ft at maturity. Golden-tipped foliage is most intense in spring. Full sun and rich, well-drained soil with some summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 6-9.
Japan. Resembles a 'Norfolk Island Pine' in growth habit, but is much hardier and is a striking chartreuse-green all year. Excellent as a specimen plant or in a container on patios or decks. In 20 years it could be 20' tall.
