Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A charming alpine primula relative native to the Alps and the Pyrenees Mountains this evergreen perennial thrives in cool bright conditions where its leathery deep green round leaves form low mats to about 10 inches wide. Early spring flowers are pale purple fringes held 8 to 10 inches above the leaves on deep purple branched stalks. They bring to mind garden nymphs at play in the garden. Light shade to sun out of the hottest afternoon sun, moist well drained soil. USDA zone 4
A jewel for your garden jewel box! Low clumping, evergreen perennial from the Pyrenees with lovely, round foliage that catches the light with its nice sheen, expanding to about 18" wide. Lavender purple bells with deeply cut fringed petals on 10-12" stems in spring are exquisite! This vigorous form of Soldanella prefers a cool shaded spot with regular moisture and good soil drainage. Rock gardens, troughs, pots and woodland settings. A small selection that is elegant in a big way!
This is the Type A of the Soldanella clan which is related to Primroses. It spreads faster, has more flowers, is more vigorous and has more hair on it's petioles - what a show-off! But hey - great rounded evergreen foliage and the light purple fringed fringed flowers would not be out of place in Fairyland. Our friend June Sinclair has this growing in the moss and forest duff atop old second growth stumps and logs in her fabulous woodland garden on Hood Canal. We come home from visiting her with a bad case of stump envy.
Small round leaves, 1-4 blue flowers in umbel.
