Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This small, spreading, self-fertile, 20-30 foot tree produces heavy crops of medium sized, one inch freestone fruit which have a high flesh to pit ratio making them excellent for pressing with their high oil content and also for curing. The fruit is very high in anti-oxidants. Highly ornamental with fluffy white summer flowers and attractive, narrow silvery leaves. Olive trees are a wonderful choice for Mediterranean style landscapes. Drought-tolerant too, making it a good choice for water-wise gardens. S/M-D/GDr
Native to the Mediterranean region, 'Manzanillo' is ranked as the world's best table olive. This evergreen tree is a vigorous plant and prolific fruiter. The soft, gray-green foliage has small, pollen-rich flowers that grow on long stems from the leaf axis. Although it's self-fertile, cross-pollination with Arbequina will increase yields. The medium-sized fruits are often picked green but will ripen to deep black when left on the tree. 'Manzanillo' withstands high summer heat and is drought resistant. Pruning keeps trees at the desired height, but remember that olives usually bear fruit on the previous year's growth. In northern zones, bring your olive tree inside once temperatures reach 32? F and provide cool, but not freezing, temperatures with indirect light for the winter months. Remember: olives must be cured before eating. Shipped in a 4" nursery pot.
Cultivated for edible fruit. The epitome of a Mediterranean climate plant - loves the San Francisco Bay Area. Picturesque shade tree with grey leaves.
