Fragrant! white flowers opening from blushed pearl-like buds in late spring on a background of glossy deep green finely cut foliage make this 3-4' evergreen a garden treasure. S-PSh/M/GDr/protect from wind/acid
One of the most popular shrubs in our gardens! The ultra slim, olivey dark-green leaves on this 4-5' compact shrub lend sculptural interest…being dense, yet retaining a wispy quality. Easy to grow (albeit a bit awkward looking while getting started) and tough too! Ignored by deer… Give it sun or a lightly shaded spot; it thrives in moist, acidic, well drained soils but survives (and looks good) with less. Late spring to early summer, legendary 'mock orange' fragrant flowers perfume the air for some distance! Outstanding - deserves more garden use!
Disporum flavens is a clump-forming, upright, rhizomatous perennial with arching stems clothed with dark green, lance-shaped leaves. In spring, small clusters of 1-3 bell-shaped, bright yellow flowers unroll with the leaves and dangle at the stem ends for a showy display.
This has dark green, maple like leaves year round. The plants get 4' tall and have white, citrus scented flowers during winter months. Hardy to perhaps 0° F. Grows very nicely along the west coast and coastal SE U.S.
An elegant Choisya: Evergreen, this shrub, 5' x 5', with shiny, narrow, bright green leaves, has decidedly, but softly fragrant, profuse white flowers in late spring that open from light pink buds. It blooms sporadically thereafter, particularly in fall. The foliage is fragrant, too, with a pungent citrus scent when crushed. A good-looker and dense! (Alas, like so many.) Minimum temperature: 5°F
A newer introduction with narrow, three-inch dark-green leaves. In late spring, small, intensely fragrant white flowers appear. It may also re-bloom during summer months. Filtered to full sun, moist, acidic well-drained soil, and filtered to full sun. Zone 7-9
This citrus relative aromatic, evergreen shrub from the highlands of Mexico has leaves that are divided into three to five narrow leaflets. The buds are pink-flushed opening to fragrant white flowers in late spring and again in late summer. Trim lightly after flowering. Often noted as a cultivar of C. ternata, it is actually a hybrid between this species and C. arizonica. Good for hedging.
Valued for its fragrant flowers and aromatic, evergreen foliage, this elegant small shrub is a hybrid bred to life by Peter Moore, Hillier's propagator. The white blossoms burst forth in profuse clusters from pink buds. Almost almond in scent, they are hosted terminally on slender, glossy and trifoliate dark green leaflets. Resistant to deer, 'Aztec Pearl's handsome rounded visage will form a close-knit and finely textured low screen or informal blooming hedge in your garden.
Fragrant white flowers spring and again late summer. Evergreen. Prune after spring bloom. USDA Zones 7-8.
Fragrant white blossoms.
Wonderful, medium-sized, evergreen shrub, a cross between C. ternata and C. arizonica, with handsome, narrow leaves and abundant, fragrant, white, orange-blossom-scented flowers in spring and summer. To 3-5 ft tall, a useful and tough evergreen shrub for full sun to part shade and average summer water. Frost hardy to USDA zone 8.
