This fast-growing evergreen shrub grows 4 to 5 ft tall, and is identified by its large canary yellow (occasionally blue) flowers on 6" spikes that flower from February to July. This plant is quite stunning and great for coastal gardens. However, please only plant it in it's native range: along the coast and San Francisco Bay-side from Bodega Bay southward. Yellow bush lupine has become a problem after being planted outside of it's range in Mendocino County and northward. Native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Important nitrogen fixer in coastal and chaparral plant communities. Prolific food source for a number of butterflies. Please only plant it in it's native range: along the coast and San Francisco Bay-side from Bodega Bay southward. No Historical Uses found. Found in coastal, found in shady places. Communitites located in Coastal Strand, Northern Coastal Scrub, Coastal Sage Scrub, Closed-cone Pine Forest, Chaparral Between 0 to 330 ft.
Fast-growing evergreen shrub to 10' tall with gray-green leaves and short spikes of fragrant, clear yellow flowers in early summer. We also grow the blue-flowered forms for restoration purposes. Well adapted to coastal areas with cool summers, this is an excellent choice for beach gardens. Requires little water in the dry season. California.
