Juncus patens is an evergreen perennial aquatic grass (or grassy in appearance) with blue foliage. In spring and summer chocolate flowers emerge. Features grassy texture. Attracts birds. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and even moisture - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Does well in average, clay and gritty soil. A good option if you're seeking something verticillium wilt resistant.

This evergreen clumping perennial grows 1-2 feet tall and has steely gray-blue stems and tan flowers Gray rush can be used in different garden situations from a dry garden in shade (once established) to 4" deep in a pond. Gray rush evokes the presence of water and looks beautiful in Japanese-style gardens. Combine with western columbine, island alum root, seep monkeyflowers, and any low-growing species of ceanothus. Adapted to our dry summers and wet winters. Flowers and fruit capsules February to October. Native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Provides nesting material for birds. Many types of rushes were used in basketry by the Ohlone people. Found in seasonally wet areas. Communitites located in Wetlands sometimes near spring and seeps. Between 0 to 5250'.
Evergreen rush with large tufts of narrow, upright stems. The thin, gray-green leaves may have a waxy appearance. These dramatic clumps of foliage can be used as accents around water. Native plant of the Pacific Northwest.
