A tropical vine that climbs by tendrils, Rex Begonia Vine has heart-shaped leaves of deep green and burgundy dripping with silvery markings and flashing a wine red underside. Happy in a basket or trained on a trellis to 3’. Provide minimum temperatures of 60 °F+, medium moisture freely draining soil and bright indirect light such as sun-dappled shade. A superb easy to grow, low maintenance plant. Picture copyright Margaret Roach.
Cissus discolor is a beautiful foliage plant with pearlescent silver toned patterns on green leaves with burgundy undersides. The tropical vine climbs by its dark red tendrils and can easily be trained on a form, or left to grow in a hanging basket. Will eventually reach heights of 5-6’. This is my favorite tropical vine hands down. zones 9 and 10 and higher with freeze protection.
A lovely tendril climber, its oval leaves are rich green, patterned with a silvery metallic luster and red beneath. To top it all off, a sprinkling of crimson is dispersed over the young leaves. Best grown warm in diffuse light. Under the cool temperatures of winter, it has a resting period.
Cissus discolor, also known as the Rex Begonia Vine is a great climber with tendrils, having green mottled oval leaves that have a silver metallic lustre, sometimes a sprinkling of crimson...fast growing and easy.
The Rex Begonia Vine, not a begonia at all, is spectacular for bringing intensely colored foliage to sun or shade gardens and looks particularly striking when grown so both the front and reverse of the leaves (deep red) can be seen. Even the stems are colorful; sporting the intense red color found on the back of the foliage. Looks great in a container; especially a hanging basket which makes it simple to bring inside for the winter. Southeast Asia, Australia.
