Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Indian Mallow is a dense semi evergreen shrub of tropical origins. It likes the hot, dry desert, and is found in the scorching areas of southern California. Indian mallow likes to spread out, growing 3-5 ft tall and equally as wide. It has warm, fuzzy, heart-shaped leaves and produces beautiful golden orange flowers in the summer months. When watered it tends to have a gray-green color, but a specimen in a drier garden is silver gray. Pinching and pruning will help keep this plant looking good. Don't water too much in the winter, or keep it too dry in the early summer, and beware of super cold temperatures because it will not survive frequent frosts. Native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. The bright mango-colored blossoms are a favorite of hummingbirds and butterflies from spring through summer. No Historical Uses found. Found in dry, rocky, east-facing mountain slopes, creosote bush scrub. Communitites located in Creosote Bush Scrub Between 1968 and 2624 feet.
A striking native species growing to about 5' with a similar spread. Velvety gray leaves provide a strong contrast to the?luminous gold flowers. Prefers well-drained soils and full sun. Southern California, Baja.
Very heat-tolerant. Fuzzy gray leaves, orange poppy flowers. An astounding addition to any drought-tolerant or native-plant garden.
