Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A delightful olive from the village of Arbeca in northern Spain; dainty, fragrant, creamy-white flowers in spring are followed by an abundant crop of small, succulent oil-rich olives that can be used for both oil production or curing; this handsome, early-bearing variety is self-fertile becoming a 10-20' tree; small enough (if kept well-pruned) for an indoor pot in colder areas. S/M-D
Olea 'Arbequina' is one of the most popular Spanish olive varieties used for gourmet quality oil and olives. It forms attractive, small trees that are naturally compact. The flowers are self-fertile and the fruit is early-ripening and borne even on young plants. At the nursery it is the most reliable fruiting variety. It makes a good pollinator for 'Leccino'.
This self-fertile olive from northern Spain is used for both its oil and as a table olive. Olives are easy-to-grow, rugged plants that tolerate dryness both in soil moisture and humidity and a wide variation in temperature from just below freezing to the triple digits. To successfully flower plants, they need lots of sun and a period of 30-45?F at night on a consistent basis during the winter. 'Arbequina' is a great olive for pots as it flowers at an early age, often when no more than a foot in height, and produces an abundance of small, dark tasty olives.
A new and valuable Spanish variety, 'Arbeguina' is self-fertile, early ripening and very attractive. It begins bearing at a young age and makes gourmet quality olives and oil.

Arbequina is a good olive for either fruit or oil. The tree is precocious and will bear as soon as you get it. The tree is semi dwarf but hardy only to 15 °F. Bummer.
One of the hardier Olives and suitable for our area. Rapid growing and ornamental in it's own right, the potential for Olives is a huge bonus. Doubtful if we will be able to ripen them here but hey, green olives are good and global climate change is upon us. Self-fertile and easy.
