Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A superb evergreen cross between Heuchera maxima and Heuchera sanguinea, this vigorous dazzler was introduced in 1958 by the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden. Scalloped bright green leaves describe a dense lustrous base, showcasing the generous offering of vivid rosy red bells on 2 ft. tall flowering spires. Tantalizing to hummingbirds and other plant enthusiasts, long blooming 'Santa Ana Cardinal' relishes cool sunny spots or bright shady ones with average to minimal summer waterings once mature.
Multitudes of vibrant red flowers on 2' stems bloom for 3-5 months, or year round in mild areas. Best with moderate summer water. Mature plants form vigorous, free-flowering clumps up to 4' wide. Hardy to 15F.
Introduced in 1958 by Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, this cross between Heuchera maxima and H. sanguinea grows and blooms vigorously unlike many of the newer hybrids which are rushed to market without field trials amidst glitzy marketing. Cranky! Great red flowers.
