Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hydrangea serrata 'Kiyosumi' forms a slightly wider and denser plant than most other Hydrangeas and will produce more flowers without being pruned than other varieties. The flower groups are open, revealing individual flowers and their petals around the perimeter of the flower base. Most hydrangeas have crowded flowers which works well for single colored petals, but without the space between individual florets multicolored petals are usually not very visible. The flowers emerge white and the edges of each petal turns pink within a week or two.
Plants are normally pruned before shipment to prevent stem damage during transport. Pruned plants will generally begin to produce large amounts of growth from the pruned stems within about two weeks during the growing season. Fertilize your plants after you get them and mulch them if planted in the ground to encourage thick stems to support the flowers.

This lovely lace cap hydrangea is quite distinctive: it tends to pink/wine/maroon shades, even in slightly acidic soil and its new foliage growth is flushed with burgundy bronze. The lace caps are displayed with white fertile flowers in the center with rosy pink flushed sterile flowers skirting the edges. Plants grow to 4' x 4'. It blooms well on new growth, once established. Shipping trade gallons.
The new growth is red purple in spring. The flowers are lace cap in July. This small grower will get 2’x2’.
This delicate and beautiful mountain hydrangea has lacecap heads of white flowers with pink picotee edges. The foliage is distinctively burgundy with deep veins when young and also if grown in some sun in summer.. Found on Mt. Kiyosumi in Japan. Hydrangea serrata is like H. macrophylla but smaller in stature and flowers making it perfect for quieter situations.

Straight from the slopes of Japan's Mt. Kiyosumi comes this spectacular deciduous Hydrangea acclaimed for its artful pink lacecaps and lavish burgundy and henna flushed new growth. Springing from ruby red buds and narrowly rimmed in red, the rosy picotee sterile florets, which eventually fade to white, festoon a compact rounded bushy assemblage of purple spotted stems plus broad mature dark green foliage, highlighted by prominent veins and young sanguine-colored leaves. Easily grown and medium-sized, 'Kiyosumi' bestows dazzling accents on any shady spot, especially when planted behind Parahebe linifolia.
We really like this Hydrangea with it's red new growth, aging to ruddy green, lace cap flowers emerging brilliant red that transition through a stripe of white into a soft pink, very striking.
Two tone bloom with dynamite foliage. Smallish blooms explode with white blooms with deep pink to red edges. This dainty looking plant is sturdy and showy with new burgundy growth that makes you stop and have to look. Slender habit and compact nature makes this a great candidate for your favorite decorative container. Show stopping in spring or fall, don't miss out on this one!
Snow white lace caps develop a fetching red margin around the florets. 4' x 4' deciduous shrub.
Lots of red in the plant- new foliage is reddish, older foliage is tipped with red, sterile florets are picoteed red over white. SWEET!

Precious hydrangea with lovely, lacecap flowers --pinkish white outlined in dark pink -- and deep, red tinted new growth that plays well with the flower color. Small in stature, to only 3-4 ft tall, and handsome intertwined with other shade loving plants. Named for Japan's Mt. Kiyosumi where it was first discovered, this is one of the very finest hydrangeas. Frost hardy in USDA zone 6.
An outstanding selection from Mt Kiyosumi in Japan, this is distinguished by russet and burgundy tones to the new foliage and the lacecap flowers are the perfect complement to that foliage with the sterile florets being white in the center of the flower and bushing to a distinct pink rim.
