I'm nuts for helianthemum, so I'll try to restrain myself and just focus on the facts. Glossy dark green evergreen leaves, forming a low spreading mound maybe six inches tall and twice that or more wide. A preference for bright sun and good drainage. Every spring, plants are absolutely covered with large, delicate looking, five petaled flowers an intense, rich, saturated shade of tangerine. Also, I should note, these are so beautiful that I want to marry them. Or at least have an intense affair with them every spring. You may disagree, and find them merely pretty and nice. Fine. Be that way. That just leaves more of them for me. Zone 5
One of the "Ben" series of sun roses, old cultivars bred by Scotsman John Nicoll and named for mountains, "ben" being a celtic name for mountain or high hill. 'Ben More' has flowers of deep orange, very striking against the mid-green foliage. These evergreen groundcovers form mats, to 4-6" tall by 15-18" wide, in full to part sun and well-drained soil with little or no summer water necessary once established. A bright spot in the dry garden and frost hardy to -20F, USDA zone 5
A superb Scottish hybrid with rich dark orange flowers which simply cannot be ignored when full on. Nice evergreen low spreader enjoying good drainage and plenty of sun. Pairs nicely with Lavender or shrubby Arctostaphylos. Trim back after flowering for a second flush.
