Leaflets emerge bronze-red aging to glossy, shiny green with very long, narrow prominently spiny leaves; Wow! Long spurred, pale yellow flowers in spring. Plant in partial sun to nearly full shade. 15” tall. Zones 5 to 9. Evergreen.
This rare evergreen species commands attention with its long narrow foliage mottled in shades of burgundy. Eventually turning green, the leaves are followed by 24-inch stems carrying long-lasting, blushing tangerine to lavender flowers. ZONE 6
Too much for words is this evergreen knockout. The large, glossy leaves are of heavy substance, up to 6" long and very spiny. New leaves are bronze to dark purple tinged, adding to the spectacle and creating the perfect backdrop for the soft yellow flowers. "Spiny-leafed Form"
An Epimedium species of great merit and the Spiny Leaf Form from Darrell Probst puts this into the first rank of the evergreen species. Gorgeous big leaves richly bronze and captivating when young. This doesn't need to bloom to make us happy but the soft yellow flowers are welcome.
