This rare & pretty Ukranian girl is no clinging vine, she weaves and scrambles through adjacent shrubs, roses and plantings, 4-5’ (maybe 7’). She is lusted after for her fabulous 2-3” bright rose pink dangling bells with their flaring petals, June thru Sept, followed by silken fluffy seed heads. Happy in sun with regular water during dry periods, decent soil; deer and rabbit resistant. Attracts hummers and gardener envy! USDA Z4-11
Alionushka has nodding, pink flowers much larger than its integrifolia parent. It is suitable for many locations and has good shade tolerance. Allow it to drape out the front of a large mixed container planting for a dramatic statement or tuck it into your perennial border for easy summer color. It was bred in the Ukraine and is very hardy. Non-Vining, Herbaceous. This is a Group 3 (C) Clematis, which means it flowers later in summer and into fall in colder climates. In warmer climates it may begin blooming much sooner. Group 3 Clematis form flowers on new growth each year, so for the best display and neatest look they should be pruned back hard each spring to about two feet off the ground or even less if desired. However, if you are training one of these into a tree or onto an overhead arbor they should be left much longer. Look for fat, healthy buds on sturdy canes and make your cut just above them. Remove dead or damaged branches any time.
A non-climber getting a little less tall than you but with much nicer flowers of a rich pinkish mauve sporting deep ridges on the reverse and with age the tips recurve and twist. Great for sprawling over a lanky shrub or up against a fence or you can just relax and let it scramble.
