T. DIVERSIFOLIA ‘LOOWIT’ - is a low growing hemlock . Seems to be wider than tall. These plants are 3-4 years old and are 4”x 6”. Very cute little hemlock.
Tsuga diversifolia 'Loowit' Dwarf Northern Japanese Hemlock - In Japan called Kometsuga (米栂) . Small, blunt needles look like green grains of rice interspersed with tiny brown buds. Diminutive branches crowded with branchlets form a tight, congested bun. This dwarf hemlock was selected from seed collected in the high alpine region of Fukushima Japan. It was given the Native American name for Mt. St. Helens. Famous volcano just east of Kigi Nursery.
This is a choice dwarf version of the Japanese Hemlock. We love the typical tree species anyway but this little cutie has us wrapped around its little branchlet. Growing just 2"-4" per year, this will make a small mound in time and is well suited for the rock garden though not tolerant of dry.
