Tubular, funnel-shaped flower clusters open a golden yellow with overtones of orange and red. Elliptic to obovate leaves are softly pubescent. The plant is native to Northern Florida and surrounding geographical areas and is commonly known as the Florida azalea.
This deciduous shrub with open growth habit has medium sized, long, narrow foliage, covered on both sides with short soft hairs. The creamy, golden yellow, tubular and funnel shaped flowers deepen to shades of orange and red. They open either with or before the leaves and are held in trusses of 8-15 blooms. Deciduous Azalea native to the SE and I haven't met a native Azalea yet that doesn't get me all revved up and this is no exception. Honeysuckle type fragrant flowers that can be yellow to orange-red and blooming just as the new growth is starting. Fairly drought tolerant.
